Announces Scholarship Recipient

The Mountain Arts Association proudly announces the recipient of the 2007 Scholarship award. The recipient of the award is chosen by the board of the MAA and is presented to a local High School student that shows the highest interest and talent in the field of the Arts.

The MAA has chosen Evan Wade Leinbach of Brasstown, NC to receive the award in the amount of $1,000.00. In accepting the award from board member Barbara Terrell, Chairman of the Emerging Artist Program, Evan stated he will use the scholarship “to pay for books, drafting tools, software, and art supplies”. He also said, “In essence the scholarship would be giving me the tools to learn my trade”.

Mr. Leinbach, a 2007 graduate of Hayesville High School, will continue his art education in the fall of 2007 at Clemson University, working on his Bachelor of Arts in Architecture. After his degree, his dream is to travel to Rome and Berlin to work on historically important buildings.

Evan was recommended for this scholarship by Hayesville High School Counselor Karen Nicholson, Rev. Guinnell Hunter – Oak Forest United Methodist Church, and Reba Beck, Art Teacher – Hayesville High School. Within the letters of recommendation it was highly evident that each thought he would be a superior choice to receive this scholarship. “Mr. Leinbach has tremendous work ethic, is motivated, and a gifted artist”. Evan is a motivated young man who is likeable, enthusiastic, trusting, and trustworthy. His moral character is above reproach”.

Mr. Leinbach stated it best by saying, “I have struggled to discover the career that best suited my future. I know now that an architect is what I will become”.
